Position Announcement

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (https://www.uvu.edu/cet/ece/) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Electrical and Computer Engineering to begin Fall of 2025.

The electrical and computer engineering faculty member teaches undergraduate courses and labs, such as Introduction to Electrical and Computer Engineering, Digital Design, Circuit Theory, Electronic Systems, Engineering Analysis, Applied Probability and Statistics for Engineers, Embedded Systems, Electromagnetics and Transmission Lines, Communication Systems, Signals and Systems, Energy Conversion, Control Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Computer Architecture, and VLSI Design. The faculty member engages in scholarly activities, such as peer-reviewed publications, that contribute to the mission of the department, university, and profession. In addition, the faculty provides service at the department, college, and university levels.

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department offers ABET-accredited degrees in BS Electrical Engineering and BS Computer Engineering. A new Scott M. Smith Engineering and Technology Building is in the construction phase, intended to be completed by Fall 2025.

The department will accept all qualified applications but is particularly interested in applicants with experience. The department will accept qualified applicants in all fields of the electrical and computer engineering including power systems, parallel and distributed systems, mobile systems, control systems, electromagnetic and transmission lines, embedded systems, neural networks, communication systems, VLSI design, digital signal processing, electronics, networking and security, image processing, robotics, programming languages, and computer architecture.

Summary of Responsibilities


  • Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories, through demonstration, discussion, visual aids, individualized instruction, lectures, and other appropriate methods for educational delivery.
  • Plans, prepares and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures.
  • Engages in scholarly activities including applied research and produces scholarly/creative work consistent with disciplinary specialization and the academic goals of the department.
  • Serves the department, college, and university by attending departmental meetings, working on committees, and accepting other service appointments.


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications


  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a B.S and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or closely related fields.
  • Evidence of strength and ability to teach general electrical and computer engineering courses.
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Established teaching and undergraduate mentoring experience in electrical and computer engineering.
  • Evidence of successful research with peer-reviewed publications in journals and conferences.
  • Practical experience in electrical and computer engineering.
Licenses or Certifications:
  • Eligible and willing to become professional engineer if not already registered.


Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge
  • Knowledge in one or more of the following fields: power systems, parallel and distributed systems, mobile systems, control systems, electromagnetic and transmission lines, embedded systems, neural networks, communication systems, VLSI design, digital signal processing, electronics, networking and security, image processing, robotics, programming languages (C, MATLAB, VHDL, Verilog, C++, Java, etc.), and computer architecture.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques, student management, motivation, evaluation and assessment of instruction, curriculum development, program development and evaluation, current trends in technical education, cooperative work experience programs, and student recruitment.
  • Knowledge and experience with supervision of undergraduate or industrial research projects.
  • Knowledge of online teaching environments, such as Canvas or other course management systems.
  • Knowledge of ABET course outcomes assessment processes.
